To choose a pendant size, start with measured height and width, draw them at actual size on paper, and hold the outline where you would wear it. Then check thickness, weight and the attachment separately. A photograph on a phone is a view of the design, not a measurement of the piece.

This JADE ALL DAY guide turns a vague preference such as “small enough for everyday wear” into a record you can compare with a listing or discuss with a seller. The method works for character pendants and other shapes, including jewelry you already own.

Which pendant measurements do you need?

Keep the carved stone and its wearing arrangement in separate fields. The definitions below are conventions for this worksheet; ask which points the seller used for its measurements. A single “size” number may not answer every question.

MeasurementWhat to recordWhy it matters
Stone heightTop to bottom of the stone, excluding a separate bail or ring.Describes the vertical space occupied by the carving.
Stone widthWidest point from side to side.A broad silhouette can occupy more space than a narrow one of the same height.
Stone thicknessFront to back at the thickest point.A paper outline cannot show how far a carving projects.
Overall hanging heightTop of the attachment to the bottom of the pendant.Separate fittings can change how low the complete assembly hangs.
Attachment and cordHole or bail opening, intended cord or clasp, and cord length.Check the opening and the largest fitting that must pass through it, as well as cord thickness.

If you have a pendant you enjoy wearing, measure its outline with a ruler as a starting reference. Record your reading as approximate and note whether fittings are included. Keep its known weight with the note, if available, rather than assuming a new stone of similar height will feel the same.

Make a paper mock-up in four steps

1. Choose the dimensions you are testing. Use the actual listing’s height and width when they are available. Otherwise, label your drawing as a proposed size preference. Leave missing product measurements unknown.

2. Draw with a ruler. Mark the height vertically and the width horizontally, then draw a rectangle around that space. If you know the outline, sketch it inside the rectangle. Cut around the outline or keep the rectangle as a simple size comparison. Write the measurements on the paper. Check the drawn height and width with the ruler again before comparing the outlines.

3. Compare it in the intended position. Hold the paper against the clothing you expect to wear, at the position where the pendant would sit, and use a mirror. Compare it with your reference pendant if you have one. Try a second outline before deciding which proportions you prefer.

4. Record the result. Write down what you liked: the approximate height, a narrower or wider outline, and the intended position. Keep unanswered questions about thickness, weight, cord length and the attachment separate. The useful result is a clearer preference plus a list of measurements to confirm.

If you print an outline from a document, include a line labeled 20 mm and measure that line on the printout. Recheck the outline’s height and width too. A print setting or a screenshot alone does not confirm physical scale; drawing directly with a ruler avoids relying on the screen size.

Same height, different width: a drawing exercise

Draw one rectangle 30 mm wide × 50 mm high and another 40 mm wide × 50 mm high. Both have the same height, but the second has a visibly broader envelope. These are hypothetical drawing dimensions, not specifications for any JADE ALL DAY product.

Keep the exercise as an outline comparison. The rectangle surrounds the possible shape; it is not the area of stone in a carved character, and it cannot predict the carving’s weight. You can repeat the exercise with your own measured reference instead of adopting either example as a recommended size.

Use one unit throughout your note. For conversions, 10 mm = 1 cm and 1 inch = 25.4 mm exactly, as set out by NIST’s length reference. Divide millimeters by 25.4 to obtain inches: a hypothetical 50 mm height is about 1.97 inches. The conversion does not make an approximate seller measurement more precise.

A listing example: what “approximately 5–6 cm” leaves open

As checked on 27 October 2026, our Hatsune Miku Full Body Design pendant, No. 3A46, lists an approximate pendant size of 5–6 cm. Its buying notes invite questions about exact height, width, thickness and cord length. That single size range should not be copied into every dimension of a drawing.

An existing 3A46 listing image, used to show the outline. It contains no measurement scale and is not displayed at the pendant’s physical size.

For example, a sensible question is: “For No. 3A46, what are the stone’s height, widest width and maximum thickness, and what is the hanging height including its attachment?” Keep the reply with the product link, the date and a note about which parts were included in each measurement. If the dimensions remain unavailable, your paper drawing remains a preference exercise rather than an exact preview of that product.

Our comparison of the two Miku carving designs helps with expression and outline. Physical size needs measurements attached to the individual listing; different photograph sizes do not provide a size comparison.

How to use the result in a custom character request

A note such as “I prefer a narrow outline; my reference pendant measures approximately 30 mm wide and 50 mm high, excluding its separate ring” explains your preference more clearly than “make it small.” Label a measurement as a reference, a preference or a requirement so its role is clear.

At JADE ALL DAY, the custom character policy says the workshop arranges dimensions and proportions to suit the stone and carving process. Exact image or file matches are not guaranteed, and the service includes no design preview, customer approval or revision round. A paper mock-up or upload does not create an accepted dimensional specification.

If a strict maximum size, a known weight or compatibility with an existing necklace is essential, ask about that requirement before ordering. If the service cannot confirm an essential size or fit requirement, choose a route that can meet it before committing to an order. Our custom reference preparation guide covers the separate task of organizing the character version and attachments.

When the outline is not enough

Pause if the decision depends on a missing dimension, exact necklace compatibility or a weight you have not confirmed. Paper can help you judge the space an outline occupies; it cannot reproduce stone weight, thickness, movement or wearing comfort. You may decide to obtain more information, choose a piece with documented dimensions or leave the purchase for later.

Sources and scope

Listing and service details were checked on 27 October 2026. The No. 3A46 size range is a seller-published specification, not a measurement we performed. The mock-up sequence, drawing exercise and copyable card are editorial planning aids; the hypothetical rectangles are not sample products or results of a wearing test. NIST supports the unit conversions only. We have not tested physical fit, measured the example pendant or verified a custom design for manufacture in this article.
