Keep them separate before using a document to support a claim about a pendant.

This JADE ALL DAY guide helps you organize documents for a piece you own or are considering. The three-part check and the copyable record below are editorial tools for handling evidence, not a laboratory identification method.

The three-part report check

Part

Question to answer

What to keep

Record

Does the issuer’s own service return information consistent with this document?

Issuer, number, date, official lookup address and result.

Item

What connects the reported object to this particular pendant?

Object description, photograph, measurements and their source.

Scope

Which findings are actually stated?

Exact identification, treatment wording, comments and any origin conclusion.

A useful note can therefore say “record found; item connection unresolved.” That describes the evidence more accurately than a single tick beside “certificate checked.”

1. Start with the issuing laboratory

Obtain a complete, legible view of the document, including comments or a reverse side if it has one. Copy the issuer’s name, report number and date. A shop’s product card, a sales receipt and a laboratory report serve different purposes; do not decide which you have from a decorative seal alone.

For a document issued by GIA, GIA Report Check lets you compare its information with GIA’s archived record. Start from the laboratory’s own website, enter the number and compare the returned information with the document. Do more than confirm that some result appeared. GIA’s limitations for report copies also caution that a shared or printed copy may not contain the latest information; consult the current record rather than relying only on an old screenshot.

For an SSEF report, the laboratory directs readers to MySSEF. Its site distinguishes verification from PDF availability: an older report can be verifiable even when a downloadable scan is unavailable. Use the issuer’s own instructions rather than assuming every laboratory uses the same fields or archive coverage.

If a lookup returns nothing, first recheck the issuer, the characters entered and the service’s stated coverage. Contact the laboratory through contact details on its own website if the result remains unclear. A failed search is a reason to investigate, not enough by itself to declare either the stone or the document fake. A report from another laboratory should not be tested by entering its number into GIA’s database.

2. Connect the record to the item

Compare the reported details with information for the pendant you mean. Start with the object description: a loose stone, a finished carving and a piece of jewelry are not interchangeable descriptions. Record where the comparison information came from, rather than treating every number on a sales page as a laboratory measurement.

Field

Comparison to make

Limit to record

Object and photograph

Compare the object type, shape, outline and visible arrangement.

A style photograph may not show the exact piece offered.

Dimensions

Compare the stated dimensions and which part was measured.

Leave missing dimensions unresolved; screen size is not a measurement.

Weight

Check the value, unit and what was weighed.

Do not substitute a package weight for a stone or jewelry weight.

Date and changes

Keep the report date and ask about later changes.

A recut or change to the object calls for clarification.

SSEF’s jade report guide explains why those limits matter. Its report photograph is representational and need not reproduce actual color or size. It also distinguishes a stone’s weight in carats from the total weight of mounted jewelry in grams. Follow the definitions on the particular report; these SSEF conventions are not universal instructions for every laboratory.

Use this comparison to identify agreements and gaps. If identity remains uncertain, ask the issuing laboratory about appropriate verification of the item itself. An image comparison or a home checklist cannot replace that examination.

3. Read the findings within their scope

Copy the identification conclusion and treatment wording, including qualifications and comments. If a question matters to you but the report does not answer it, record it as unanswered. Do not fill the gap from the product title, the stone’s color or the word “natural.” Our Xiuyan jade and jadeite material checklist covers the separate task of reading a seller’s material statement.

Geographic origin is a separate question. GIA’s comparison of colored-stone reports distinguishes identification from identification-and-origin reporting. Read the actual document for an origin conclusion and its qualifications; a country in a listing does not become a laboratory finding just because a report is also available.

A report also has a time and purpose. GIA’s report limitations state that its findings describe the article examined using the techniques available at that time, and that its report is not an appraisal or a guarantee. Treat this as GIA’s stated scope, rather than a promise about every laboratory’s service. A database record does not tell you what a piece is worth to you.

Two listing descriptions, two different evidence gaps

JADE ALL DAY sells the following examples. Their pages were checked on 29 October 2026. We did not examine a certificate or test either pendant for this article.

Current listing

What the page says

What remains to check

Blue Water Seated Buddha, No. 7330

A physical identification certificate is an optional add-on. The page describes natural jadeite and Guatemala as its origin.

The actual issuer, document, findings and connection to the piece. The option alone does not supply them.

Miku Full Body Design, No. 3A46

Serpentine Jade; a treatment grade is unspecified; a certificate is not included.

Whether any item-specific documentation is available if that is essential to your decision. Do not assume it comes with the order.

The No. 7330 listing also labels 30 g as shipping weight with packaging. That figure should not be treated as the pendant’s net weight when comparing a laboratory report. A disagreement between figures measuring different things is not, by itself, an item mismatch.

Neither row identifies the optional document as a GIA or SSEF report. Those laboratories illustrate their own verification services in this guide; they are not presented as the issuers of our products’ documents. If you require a particular laboratory or conclusion, ask about that requirement before ordering.

Copy this jade report check card

Use one record per item. Keep the document, lookup result and seller’s answer with it, and date the note. A blank field means information is missing, not that a favorable conclusion should be assumed.

Item link or identifying reference:
Date checked:

RECORD
Issuing laboratory:
Report number and date:
Official lookup address:
Result and date of lookup:
Document versus archive differences:

ITEM
Reported object description:
Exact-piece or style photographs?
Dimensions and measurement source:
Weight, unit and what it includes:
Changes since the report:
Connection evidence / remaining gap:

SCOPE
Identification wording:
Treatment wording and comments:
Origin conclusion or not addressed:
Question the report does not answer:

Next question and who can answer it:
Decision: continue / ask / pause

Choose the next step from the remaining gap

If the archive and document disagree, ask the issuer to resolve that difference. If the record agrees but the pendant connection is unclear, request item-specific evidence rather than another copy of the same document. If the report omits a conclusion you require, ask whether an appropriate examination is available. You may decide to wait, choose a different piece or make no purchase.

Keep the result limited to what you checked. “Information agrees with the issuer’s archive” and “the laboratory examined this pendant” are different statements. The first should not silently turn into the second.

Sources and scope

Sources and listing details checked on 29 October 2026.
